Mustangs football is Edmonton's newest entry in Minor football. After the end of the 2006 season, a few like-minded individuals got together with the idea it was time for south west Edmonton to have it's own minor football program. Thus the South West Edmonton Minor Football Association, and the Mustangs were born.

The Mustangs started the 2007 season with a single team in the Bantam division. That team won the Tier IV Bantam city championship.

In 2008 the Mustangs expanded, adding a Midget and Atom team.  That year the Bantams won the Tier III city final, and the Atoms were Tier III finalists.

Now in 2009 the Mustangs have added a team in the Peewee division,  completing the lineup with teams in all CDMFA divisions.
